Re: Thielert Situation Update

Over the past 10 days, Diamond senior management has been working diligently in an
attempt to achieve a workable solution for DA42 and DA40 tdi owners on parts support and
warranty. We had a face-to-face meeting with the insolvency administrator on Friday, May
9th, and several subsequent telephone conversations, the latest on Friday, May 16th.

Unfortunately, the results have not been positive, and we need to share with you what
clearly is a very disappointing update.

Overall, we have the impression that the insolvency administrator is not able to nor
interested in providing a path forward which makes current TAE engine operators and
owners a priority. Instead, we are left with no choice but to conclude that their agenda is at
odds with ours and yours, and that we will likely not get a workable solution from working
with TAE and the administrator until after the end of preliminary insolvency, presumably in
July.

Thielert Aircraft Engines (TAE) situation

Diamond TwinStar
On April 24th 2008 the manufacturer of Thielert Aircraft Engines (TAE) opened preliminary bankruptcy proceedings and a lawyer was appointed as trustee to manage the company.

Operating under similar protection as Chapter 11 here in the USA, Thielert discontinued all guarantees given to customers regarding Warranty for Thielert engines as of May 15th 2008.

The Diamond Twin Star DA42 operates two Thielert engines. These engines have life limited parts (e.g. Gearbox, clutch, pressure pumps and others) that have to be replaced at certain intervals. These parts were so far covered under warranty. The withdrawal of Thielert’s warranty promise means that the operating cost of the DA42 has increased by up to app. $200.00 per hour (!)

In order to cover at least a part of these increased costs, we regret to announce the following measures which are in effect immediately:

The price for the DA42 will be $485.00 per hour

This new price covers the fuel surcharge (until further notice) in other words – no fuel surcharge for DA42’s

Although this drastic increase will help to cover a part of the additional costs, there remains some uncertainty of Thielert’s actual ability to deliver parts when they will be needed. As a consequence, we need to make sure that we use the available engine hours as efficient for our customers training purposes as possible. Therefore, the following restrictions apply until further notice:

• We cannot offer Checkouts on the DA42’s
• We cannot allow Rentals on the DA42’s
• We will not offer initial Multi engine training (e.g. Commercial ME)
• We will not offer Time-building flights in Twin Star aircraft

This also affects the Multi engine portion of our Cleared Direct program

• We reserve the right to evaluate, alter and deny any DA42 flight, based solely on our internal priorities, even on short notice.

We are evaluating alternative solutions to this situation and hope that these restrictions can soon be reduced or removed, based on open decisions from the manufacturers involved.

Until then we appreciate your understanding.
